Festival 2010

CIFF 2010 was a huge success.  CIFF screened over 40 feature films and 80 short films during the 10 day festival.

The majority of films were shown in the 50 seat screening room at the CIFF Villa, 15 minutes walk from the Palais des Festivals. During the 2010 festival, eight CIFF films were also shown in the Palais des Festivals, and other top screening sites in Cannes.

Screenings at the CIFF Villa in  2010 were attended by a mix of sales agents, buyers, investors, producers (including some big Hollywood ones such as Tim Van Rellim, producer of A KNIGHTS TALE), other filmmakers participating in the festival, and industry people and film fans looking to watch great movies in Cannes.

"The festival far exceeded my expectations. OK I know what you are thinking, it's Cannes...your expectations have to be sky high! They were,, but I'll say it again, the festival exceeded my expectations. It was an incredible experience. The other filmmakers were fantastic, and so were the films. Did I mention the setting? Incredible! I'm not the only one who feels strongly about this festival. Right after I won for Documentary Short...I was contacted by two buyers and two film festival directors."

Cannes Independent is a filmmaker's paradise that offers the best of both worlds - a true festival experience with fabulous screenings and thoughtful discussions combined with access to one of the world's most important markets. By day one can wheel and deal at the Palais and by night return to enjoy and learn from her filmmaking peers in the most beautiful villa in the world. This experience has changed my life. Thanks, Cannes Independent for the amazing education, wonderful memories and the best post-film discussions with filmmakers and wine ever!

"CIFF 2010, under director Erich Schultz's unflappable stewardship, was an indie filmmaker's paradise. The international feature film selection was highest quality, and the shorts blocks gave this jaded critic a renewed taste for the genre. The films, the non-stop shop talk, the food - treat yourself to the full festival in 2011 if you possibly can. And oh yeah - don't forget the largest film market in the world is a pleasant 15-minute walk from the CIFF villa. A lot of good stuff is happening for us as a result of CIFF - literally can't thank you enough"

"It is so refreshing to be a part of something that not only nods towards the original intention of Cannes, celebrating innovative and original cinema as art rather than product, but it also provides an environment where truly independent cinema can be celebrated, discovered and most importantly shared in all its wonderful varied glory. We have had an opportunity here to meet and enjoy post-film conversation and discussion with some of the worlds most intelligent and articulate film-artisans, and have planted the seed for many future international collaborations. It has also provided a unique 'entree' into the market with its boutique, intimate screening facility. The Cannes Independent is a gem in the festival circuit." -
