20th Dhaka International Film Festival starts on Saturday

DIFF will also use the virtual platform for online projection, for the second time, in addition to theaters

The 20th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) is scheduled to open on Saturday, January 15 at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum at 4 p.m.

The festival is hosted on an ongoing basis by Rainbow Film Society, a company dedicated to promoting healthy film culture in Bangladesh since 1977.

During the 20th DIFF, the organizers plan to screen around 225 films from 70 different countries. The screenings will take place at the Alliance Française de Dhaka, STAR Cineplex, the Shilpakala Academy of Bangladesh (Auditorium Jatio Chitrashala, Auditorium Jatiya Sangeet and Nrityakala, and Nandan Theater – Outdoor screening), Central Public Library (Auditorium Shawkat Osman) and Bangladesh National Auditorium of the museum (the main auditorium and the Sufia Kamal auditorium).

The Dhaka International Film Festival will also use the virtual online screening platform for the second time, in addition to the cinemas.

The festival has ten sections: Asian competition section, retrospective section (dedicated to a Japanese filmmaker, the late Yasujiro Ozu), tribute section (dedicated to the late French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo), wide angle, panorama of Bangladesh, world cinema, Section Women filmmakers, Spiritual Section, Children Section and Short and Independent Section.

“Wide Angle” is a new addition dedicated to the underrated filmmakers of Bangladesh and this year it will screen the films of an independent filmmaker – Shaheen Dil-Riaz.

In addition to this, exclusive segments – “8th Dhaka International Women Filmmakers Conference” will be held January 16-17 at Samson Lounge, Dhaka Club and “West Meets East” January 16-19 at Alliance française de Dhaka.

The organizers are holding a press conference on January 13, 2022 at the Samson Lounge, Dhaka Club at 12 noon.
