7th Mercy to Universe film festival kicks off in Turkey
The 7th Mercy to the Universe International Short Film Festival kicked off Monday in Istanbul.
The week-long Atlas Cinema Festival is organized in cooperation with the Siyer Foundation and the Fidan Art Foundation, and is supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with Anadolu Agency as a global communication partner.
The festival aims to present the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad to the world.
During the opening ceremony, trailers of films that qualified for the finals of national and international competitions were shown.
Speaking to Anadolu agency, festival director Cemil Nazli said: âThere will be very important events and screenings related to cinema and art for six days. At these screenings we will bring short films from directors to cinephiles, âhe added.
He noted that this year’s special guest is Spanish director Oliver Laxe, who has received numerous awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
Laxe, who chairs the international jury of the festival, will organize a Master Class for film industry professionals on November 25 as part of the final section of the festival.
The festival will also welcome Kaz Rahman, Canadian filmmaker and writer, who will participate for the first time. On November 23, a conversation with Rahman about Islamophobia in the film industry will take place at Akademi Beyoglu, hosted by author Peren Birsaygili Mut.
