Kering will present an award to Viola Davis at the Cannes Film Festival
Kering is renowned for its global luxury portfolio consisting of Gucci, Balenciaga, Gucci, Saint Laurent and many more. And this year, under the glamor of the Cannes Film Festival, the luxury multinational will honor American actress and producer Viola Davis with their 2022 women on the move Award.
We saw Davis widows, Fences– for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as her captivating performance in Ugly, and, let’s not forget his complex character in ABC How to get away with murder. His characters are bold and strong, they uplift women. And we’ve seen her win a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, four SAG Awards and an Emmy wearing Stella McCartney, Armani Privé, Michael Kors and Alexander McQueen to name a few. With all of her accomplishments, Davis is the first African-American actress to have so many nominations and awards for her entertainment work.
A champion of racial diversity in film, Davis has also campaigned for women’s rights. Alongside female politicians and film personalities, the actress participated in the Women’s March in early 2018. Born into a poor family in St. Matthews, South Carolina, Davis grew up in Rhode Island but inherited the speaking out of his mother, who was a civil rights activist.
And that is why François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of Kering, Pierre Lescure, President of the Cannes Film Festival and Thierry Frémaux, Executive Director of the Cannes Film Festival, will present her with this award in a few weeks at the Women Souper In Motion on 22 mayn/a.
Kering is committed to women and makes a difference for them in arts and culture. In launching the award in 2015 during the Cannes Film Festival, the company’s goal was to showcase women in film, both in front of and behind the camera. “For eight years, Women In Motion has been a platform of choice that has contributed to changing mentalities and reflection on the place of women – and the recognition they receive – in the arts and culture”, notes Kering.
Davis’ stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, dressed the actress in bold yet fitted dresses for the most high-profile events. So, it will be exciting to see what Davis wears for dinner.
Salma Hayek won the award last year, Gong Li in 2019, Patty Jenkins in 2018, Isabell Hubgert in 2017, Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon in 2016 and Jane Fonda in 2015.
