Paisible, also known as De Son Vivant in French, is directed by Emmanuelle Bercot and stars Catherine Deneuve, Cécile de France and Benoît Magimel in the lead roles.

The film follows three characters, a son (Magimel) with cancer, his mother (Deneuve) and her struggle with not being able to help him, and the nurse (from France) trying to do her job.

The Cannes Film Festival is now in its fifth day after being canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Melissa currently lives in Paris with her two sons, Raphaël, seven, and Solal, five.

In 2012, Melissa told the Sydney Morning Herald that she would not return to Australia because she was fed up with local media being “disrespectful” when mentioning her role in Home and Away.

“I don’t need my country’s credibility anymore, I just need them all to shut up.” If they don’t have anything smart to say, please don’t talk to me again,” she said.

“I’d rather have a croissant and a little espresso in Paris or walk my French bulldog in New York.”

However, she later changed her tune after temporarily returning to Australia to film drama Bad Mothers for Channel Nine.

During a promotional interview for the series in 2019, Melissa gushed to TV Week magazine: “Every time I come to Australia, I feel complete.”

She had spent 10 days filming Bad Mothers in Melbourne in 2018 and believes the short stay helped her “reconnect” with Australian culture.

“It was a great opportunity to come home and be amongst the Australian talent. That’s why I wanted to do this,” she explained.

“I would say a lot of Australian talent is forced to go overseas – that’s how it works. But when we get home, it’s like the last piece of the puzzle to put together.
