MDC’s Tower Theater will screen 13 films in the Best International Feature Film category, including five premieres in Miami before 94^e Oscar nominations announced

MIAMI (January 3, 2022) – The countdown to 94^e Let’s go for the Oscars! The Oscars unveiled a list of 15 finalists for the Best International Feature Film category, out of 93 entries from countries around the world.

January 3 to February 7 Miami Film Festival and Miami-Dade College (MDC) Tower Theater Miami are proud to present a SERIES OF INTERNATIONAL SCREENINGS OF THE LIST OF SKILLS, with big-screen movie opportunities to see 13 of the contestants at the historic Little Havana Theater. Five of the selections are premieres in Miami, the audience’s first chance to see these great films!

This series adds to the excitement of the previously announced Miami- Film FestivalVariety round table of candidates to be held in March and offers Southern Floridians the opportunity to see several of the shortlisted films leading up to the Oscar nominations announcement on February 8, 2022.

Tuesday January 4 – THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD (Norway). The opening night of the series is one of the clear favorites. Joachim Trier’s film was named Best Foreign Language Film by the New York Film Critics Circle. (6:50 p.m. start time)

Thursday January 6 – A HERO (Iran). Filmmaker Ashgar Farhadi is already a two-time Oscar winner for his previous films, A SEPARATION and THE SELLER. (6:50 p.m. start time)

Saturday January 8 – HIVE (Kosovo). First in Miami! Winner of multiple awards at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

Tuesday January 11 – LAMB (Iceland). With Noomi Rapace (The girl with the dragon tattoo).

Thursday January 13 – THE HAND OF GOD (Italy). Paolo Sorrentino’s love letter to his native Naples has an epic sweep.

Saturday January 15 – DRIVE MY CAR (Japan). First in Miami! Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s jaw-dropping film is another clear favorite for this year’s Oscar. The film was named best film of the year by the New York Film Critics Circle and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, one of the few times that both groups of critics have voted for the same film. Tuesday January 18 – PRAYERS FOR THE STOLEN (Mexico).

Thursday January 20 – GREAT FREEDOM (Austria).

Saturday January 22 – COMPARTMENT NO.6 (Finland). First in Miami! A moving cinematic experience. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

Tuesday January 25 – LUNANA: A YAK IN THE CLASSROOM (Bhutan). First in Miami! This beloved wellness film marks Bhutan’s very first appearance on the Oscar list.

Thursday January 27 – GAMES AREA (Belgium). First in Miami! In French with English subtitles, presented by TV5 Monde.

Saturday January 29 – I AM YOUR MAN (Germany).

Tuesday February 1 – FUIR (Denmark). Another big favorite. Finalist for the Audience Award at the recent Miami Film Festival GEMS and winner of the main awards of Sundance, New York Film Critics Circle and Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
