Srinagar, June 20: Two short films produced by the Department of Media Studies at Government Degree College, Baramulla have been voted Best Films at the Sarhad J&K International Film Festival in Pune.

According to a statement, “Schizophrenia” and “KhatayAngoor”, the short films produced by students in the media studies department, won first and second prizes respectively, beating out about 70 entries from different states.

The film festival was organized by JAKIFF, a brainchild of NGO ‘Sarhad’, in Pune, Maharashtra from June 11-15.

‘Schizophrenia’, directed by Nayeem Mir, a 4th semester student in the Department of Media Studies, aims to depict the effects of schizophrenia experienced by victims of this disorder. ‘KhatayAngoor’ was directed by department alumnus Ubaid Zarger.

“The Department of Media Studies provides the platform and training for its students to make such award-winning films. We ensure that students are familiar with on-the-job training so that they are ready for the industry as soon as they graduate,” said Dr Danish Nabi, head of the media studies department, GDC Baramulla.

The awards, Danish said, will encourage students to work harder while fueling their zeal for creative work.
