The 20 most glamorous celebrity couples spotted at the Cannes Film Festival

When it comes to film festivals, you can’t get more romantic than the Cannes Film Festival. During the festival’s 74 years, the French Riviera has served as a backdrop for filmmakers paired up in oversized sunglasses and gorgeous Hermès scarves. To celebrate its 74th birthday, vogue looks back at some of the most glamorous couples to appear at Cannes, from Yoko Ono and John Lennon to Johnny Depp and Kate Moss.

One of the celebrity couple’s first festival highlights came in 1955, when Grace Kelly – before she became Princess of Monaco – attended Cannes with French film star Jean Pierre Aumont by her side. In a classic tuxedo and black dress with a fur cape, they looked like an elegant duo from old Hollywood. A more groovy moment came in 1977, when Charlotte Rampling and Jean Michel Jarre hit Cannes together wearing suits for him and for her, each with flared pants, of course.

More recently, who can forget when George and Amal Clooney walked the carpet at Cannes in 2016? George may have been the one in town to promote his new movie silver monster, but it was his wife, in a yellow Grecian-inspired Versace gown, who stole the show. In 2019, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas also commanded the paparazzi in modern, all-white looks: Chopra wore a sculptural strapless Georges Hobeika dress, while Jonas did an elegant Berluti suit. While all of these couple-style moments are vast and varied, one thing remains true on the Cannes mat: two is always better than one.
