The City of Rome and the Rome International Film Festival present a series of free films

The City of Rome and the Rome International Film Festival (RIFF) invite the public to enjoy a series of free films at the Auditorium of the City of Rome. The series will include three films that will take place on Wednesday evenings in July. The Rome International Film Festival will offer concessions for sale to each film. Doors will open 30 minutes before each show.

“The City of Rome is thrilled to partner with the Rome International Film Festival to bring this series of free films,” said Facilities Manager Wendy Reid. “Thank you to the RIFF Board of Directors who have selected a variety of classic American films that the whole family will enjoy and will be fun to watch on the big screen!”

Wednesday July 6: The Iron Giant, 6.30 p.m.
In this animated adaptation of Ted Hughes’ Cold War fable, a giant alien robot crash-lands near the small town of Rockwell, Maine in 1957. While exploring the area, a 9-year-old boy, Hogarth, discovers the robot, and soon forms an unlikely friendship with it. (PG rated)

Wednesday July 20: Le Wiz, 6:30 p.m.
This American musical adventure fantasy film is a reimagining of the classic 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It follows the adventures of Dorothy, a former schoolteacher from Harlem who finds herself magically transported to the urban fantasy Land of Oz, which feels like a dreamlike version of New York City. she scours the city in search of the mysterious Wiz. (Rated G)

Wednesday July 27: The Goonies, 6:30 p.m.
A gang of adventurous kids face off against the might of a real estate development corporation that plans to destroy their home to build a country club. When the kids discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it to an underground cavern in search of lost treasure, but encounter many dangerous obstacles along the way. (PG rated)

Proceeds from the concessions will benefit the Rome International Film Festival to be held November 10-13, 2022. The Rome City Auditorium includes a 24′ x 13-1/2′ digital projection screen and digital projector which delivers stunning colors and super bright images.
