EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Eau Claire International Film Festival returns for its fourth year at the Pablo Center.
Chris Herriges is the director of the film festival. He now lives in the Twin Cities but grew up in Eau Claire. A few years ago, Herriges wanted to create his own film festival and thought that Eau Claire was the right place to do it.
âThen I figured my hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin was small enough that it could at least be a big deal and big enough to support something like that,â Herriges said.
The three-day event features content from countries like Australia, Brazil and more.
âWe have a multitude of great films from places like the Netherlands and Taiwan. We have four or four different Taiwan cartoons that are awesome, âHerriges said.
Roger Paradiso is a New York-New Jersey-based director.
âI started in the movie business in New York around 1978, I started out on Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories,â Paradiso said.
Her film, “Searching for Camelot: The Queen of Camelot” is about Jacqueline Kennedy and will be played on the third day of the festival.
âWhat I wanted to approach was from the minute she was born her whole life,â Paradiso said. âI didn’t just want to hear from the first lady. I wanted to hear about her, her time in college and her meeting with John Kennedy.
Herriges says there is a heavy focus on Wisconsin-based films statewide.
âA story of the fastest ice boat ever created that happened in Madison, Wisconsin,â Herrgies said.
In addition to the films, video clips shot at Eau Claire will also be broadcast.
Herriges says film festivals like this provide support and a platform for artists and filmmakers to showcase their work.
âWhen they walk into a festival, maybe it becomes like a selling point for this movie to be taken more seriously by the biggest powers in the industry,â Herriges said.
The Eau Claire Film Festival takes place October 1-3 at the Pablo Center.
To enter the building, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required. Masks are also mandatory indoors.
