The poster for the 58th Chicago International Film Festival is unveiled | Chicago Reel

Cinema/Chicagothe presenter of the Chicago International Film Festival, has unveiled the poster image for this year’s Festival, announcing the 58th edition of North America’s longest-running competitive film festival and created in collaboration with advertising powerhouse internationally renowned Ogilvy.

This year’s campaign, titled The subtitled lifebuilds on the award-winning success of 2021 Life, scripted campaign, and highlights the universal accessibility of cinema by using this essential of classic cinema: the subtitle.

The subtitled life demonstrates that an international film festival is not as alien as some might think,” said Gabe Usadel, Executive Director of Design at Ogilvy. “Since the beginning of cinema, subtitles have made it possible to break down barriers. They transcend language and ability, reflect universal struggles and triumphs, and unite moviegoers. This year, we’re bringing the film’s romance, intrigue and drama to life by giving Chicago and the people of Chicago their very own subtitles.

“The Chicago International Film Festival exists to recognize, honor and inspire creativity,” said the Cinema/Chicago CEO. Viviane Teng. “Ogilvy has been named the most creative advertising agency in the world, and our collaboration brings the two historic creative organizations together for the fourth year in 2022.”

Launching in September 2022, the full campaign includes bus shelters, wild posts, digital and social media assets and a trailer. In the days leading up to the Festival, captions will be placed around the city and captioned images of people around Chicago will be shared on social media using the hashtag #LifeSubtitled as the Festival brings Chicago fully into the annual celebration of the movie theater.

The Chicago International Film Festival‘s 2021 collaboration with Ogilvy, titled Life, scriptedachieved the advertising industry’s equivalent of the elusive EGOT, the rare achievement of an individual winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Life, scripted featured a series of out-of-home displays and contextual experiences that popped up across Chicago and presented the everyday experiences of average people in the form of script pages.

The campaign has been recognized with awards including The only show (the world’s most prestigious awards show in advertising, design and digital marketing), The Clio Awards (rewarding excellence in advertising), FATHER (honoring creative excellence in design and advertising), and the coveted Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity which is inspired by the Cannes International Film Festival and celebrates the creative communications industry.
